      This is a great question! I think that every contribution from the biggest to the smallest had its impact on bringing science to where it is today. In general the scientists behind technological advancements are the ones that have made science to evolve.
      In reards to my research, I believe that the development of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) sperctometry and Mass Spectrometry have made structure elucidation of new molecules faster, more efficient and of better quality. These are 2 techniques that I use everyday in order to figure out the structure of the new molecules I discover from marine organisms, and back in the 70s when this research field appeared NMR instruunmnets were not as powerful as they are today and mass spectrometers were a luxury to have in the lab
