As I said, I’ll probably give the prize money away to the student chemical society at Heriot-Watt to encourage then to undertake more public engagement activities.
If I couldn’t use the money to organise students visiting our labs on a school trip, I would use it to fund our project called ChemBus, where we take fun chemistry experiments to schools around Scotland and spend the day showing them to students.
I will make an unique interactive chemistry website for students. All of you can take part building that website day by day slowly.
Students (you) can ask questions, can participate in games, quiz etc. Students can explain chemistry in their own way. Chemistry in our daily life (starting from tooth paste to the detergent; baking soda to pain-killer, many more) will be the main part of the website. It will make awareness among kids what can be good/safe to use and what could be avoided. It will be primarily based on Scotland; but in future can be extended to wider populations across UK. Feedbacks will be received from teachers and parents and the website will be improved/updated regularly. I have previously made a website (https://ukpujaparikrama.wixsite.com/2018) for a traditional festival, that connected all Indian bengalis in UK. From my previous experience I believe an interactive chemistry website will be really interesting to Kids.
If I couldn’t use it for my original idea, I would see if I could take a chemistry themed escape room game which is being developed by some of my colleagues out to some schools!
