It depends on what I’m working on… sometimes I work alone and other times it pays to work within a team.

I think it depends on the task that I’m working on. Sometimes it’s impossible to start and finish something on your own so you do need to work as part of a team. Other times though it is almost mandatory to work alone, to allow yourself to focus and concentrate!

I work better in a team. I have done many collaborative works with various universities across the world. I can work with complete strangers. I also lead lots of cultural festivals in Edinburgh and therefore I have to distribute the work among several people. I need to do some work alone; but I get more fun when I do things together.

I definitely work better in a team, teamwork makes the dream work! Science is all about helping your colleagues and communicating with them well.

Day to day I work alone quite a lot, at my fume hood, putting on and figuring out reactions but, it’s always much better to be part of a team! If I’m having any issues there are other chemists all around me I can ask for help and discussions in a team are always very useful! Someone has often seen the problem before and knows how to solve it. I think a bit of both is best for this job!
