Yes… My Maths, Chemistry and Physics teachers all encouraged me to look at going to university. My decision to do chemistry at university was mine alone but I enjoyed it ad was good at it so doing chemistry seemed like a good idea.
Absolutely! My chemistry teacher in high school was the definition of a mad scientist! He was so passionate about chemistry that you couldn’t help yourself but get involved as much as you could!
My physics teacher, on the other hand, was a bit arrogant and I never really enjoyed his class even though I always liked physics.
Yes, my teachers at school for science were all really supportive. They could all see that I enjoyed science and was really good at it and so they encouraged me to do more. For example my high school chemistry teacher really encouraged me to go to university, and so did my sixth form teacher; they both sometimes ask about how I’m doing even now I’m a real scientist! My high school teacher was also really fun, he often set chemicals on fire in the classroom; he said it was to show us how oxidation worked, but I think he just liked setting things on fire…
I was fortunate to have one very good chemistry teacher in school; he used to explain us the use of chemistry in daily life (starting from tooth paste to medical drug or even cleaning materials, foods, petrol etc). He also took us to fireworks and I was fascinated by colour changes from chemical reactions. He also allowed me to build molecules using model kit. My chemistry teacher was so passionate that I automatically fell in love with chemistry.
Yeah for sure, doing this has made me realise!! I don’t know if I would have went on to study chemistry if it hadn’t been for my high school chemistry teacher, he was so engaged and enthusiastic about the subject it drew me in. It’s mad that one teacher has potentially carved my career choice….I doubt he even knows!
