Favourite thing to do in my job: Making Gold Nanoparticles (they come in so many different colours!)
I'm Aryanne, a PhD student from Glasgow
I’m Aryanne, I live in Glasgow and study at the University of Strathclyde.
I am a huge animal lover! I have a German Shepherd (Freyja), two horses (Harley Quinn & Spartan) and a baby royal python called Ripley!
I am not your typical scientist, as i have blue hair, piercings and tattoos, but science is for everyone so it doesn’t matter what you look like!
I make gold nanoparticles and coat them with sticky stuff to attach bacteria finding sensors!
What I'd do with the prize money
I would like to educate kids on animal diseases
I would love to be able to use the prize money to arrange a day at an animal sanctuary or petting zoo and bring along scientists and researchers who could further educate kids on the types of animal diseases that people would not really know about and the therapies and vaccines that are being developed to help! The reason i would choose somewhere like a sanctuary would be to have the children be in contact with the animals and be allowed to pet/ handle them as they are being told about the issues and illnesses that they may contract and how research is helping to cure these animals.
